Barbara Bach Wiki Biography

Barbara Goldbach was born to an Irish Catholic mother and Austrian Jewish father, on 27 August 1947, in Rosedale, Queens, New York City USA, and as Barbara Bach is known as a former model and actress. Before pursuing her acting career, Bach had already made a name for herself and in the modeling industry in the ‘60s, when she was in her late teenage years. In the acting industry, she is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Anya Amasova (Agent Triple X), Bond girl, in the 1977 movie – “The Spy Who Loved Me”. Another major role in Bach’s acting career was the role of Maritza Petrović in the British World War Two-themed film, “Force 10 from Navarone”, which came out in 1978.

So just how rich is Barbara Bach, as of mid-2017? Authoritative sources estimate that Bach’s net worth is as high as $20 million – aside from modeling and acting, a large portion of her income has come from the sale of her and her husband Ringo Starr’s ranch for $3.85 million in 2014.

Bach was a resident of Rosedale her whole upbringing including most of her teenage years. She dropped-out of high school for the sake of pursuing her modeling career on a higher level, although Barbara eventually got a Master’s degree in Psychology at UCLA in 1990.

In hindsight dropping out of school was worth the risk, especially signing with the Eileen Ford Agency in New York. She became one of the best-known and acclaimed models in the industry, appearing in various international fashion magazines such as ‘’Seventeen’’, ‘’Vogue’’, ‘’ELLE’’, ‘’Gioia’’ and ‘’Figurino’’ at a relatively young age, Bach became the perfect epitome of the ‘60s and ‘70s model, establishing a firm base to her net worth.

One of the core changes in Barbara’s career, as well as her personal life, happened when she decided to move to Italy, as her partner had suggested, focusing on her acting career. Shortly after moving to Italy, she got her first small role as Princess Nausicaa in the Italian TV Show ‘’The Odyssey’’. Nevertheless, Bach didn’t neglect her modeling career, and with new business opportunities she continued with becoming the face and spokesperson for Amaro Cora, appearing in their commercials. Her acting career also continued to grow, as she got her first role on the big screen in the movie ‘’Il Mio Padre Monsignore’’, then appearing in numerous Italian and French movies. Bach’s career was going upwards to the point of culmination when she caught the eye of Cubby Broccoli, the producer of “The Spy Who Loved Me”, her breakthrough movie, playing the part of Anya Amasova, the role of Bond girl which helped her gain massive popularity in Hollywood, as the film considered to be one of the best Bond movies, thus Bach’s part in it is favourably acknowledged, and boosted her net worth considerably. Another movie role significant for her acting career was “Force 10 from Navarone”, in which she was Harrison Ford’s co-star. In 1980, the actress was cast in the comedy ‘’Caveman’’ alongside her future husband and former member of The Beatles, Ringo Starr – today, her name is mostly associated with him.

Barbara starred in many more films through 1986, but unfortunately none received as much critical praise as “The Spy Who Loved Me”. Barbara eventually retired from modeling and acting – having appeared in almost 30 films – but she is still remembered as an impressive model, glamourous and sophisticated, and a noteworthy actress.

In her personal life, after meeting Italian businessman Augusto Gregorini, the couple married when Barbara was only 18 years old in 1966, remaining together for twelve years and having a daughter and a son. In 1981, she married her “Caveman” co-star, Ringo Starr, and they remain together to this day. It is reported that both Bach and Starr have a vegetarian based diet.

Having established Self Help Addiction Recovery Program with Patti Boyd, Eric Clapton and George Harrison, and The Lotus Foundation with her husband, Bach is widely recognized for her charity work.

#Fact
1Her then-boyfriend Danton Rissner lobbied hard to get her cast in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). She did a successful screen-test and beat out established stars like Catherine Deneuve, Marthe Keller, and Dominique Sanda, because their agents were asking for a lot of money, and the James Bond film producers usually cast unknown actresses, because they were inexpensive.
2She recommended Grace Jones to the James Bond film producers who cast her in A View to a Kill (1985).
3Roger Moore barely mentions her in his memoir, even though he called The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) as one of the best James Bond films. John Glen later said that he believed that Moore and Bach "weren't the best of buddies" and that she might have found his humor to be juvenile.
4Her most famous film role is of a Russian spy in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). Because she spoke with a Russian accent in that film, and because most of her other film roles were either in Italian or French, everyone assumed that she was European and refused to cast her in American roles. The truth is she was born and raised in New York, USA and speaks English with an American accent, even after her marriages to an Italian businessman and to an Englishman Ringo Starr.
5She graduated from the all-girl Dominican Commercial High School in Jamaica, New York in 1964.
6Stepaunt of Lucy Walsh.
7Sister-in-law of Joe Walsh.
8Older sister of Marjorie Bach.
9Stepmother of Zak Starkey.
10It was between Barbara and Shelley Hack to replace Kate Jackson on Charlie's Angels (1976). The New York-born Barbara was deemed too European and sophisticated for the role and Hack won the part. Hack was not keenly accepted as an "Angel" by audiences, however, and left after only one season.
11While traveling through England in May 1980 Ringo and Barbara suffered a near-fatal car crash, miraculously surviving with few injuries. Ringo decided he never wanted to be separated from Bach again. They married less than a year later.
12Has involved herself in charity work, including the Live Aid connected "Fashion Aid", and "The Rumanian Angel" appeal which was set up with Olivia Harrison and Yoko Ono, George and John's widows. Barbara worked with the "Parents For Safe Food" Campaign. In 1991, with help from Pattie Boyd (George's ex), she set up a free clinic for addicts called SHARP (Self Help Addiction Recovery Program) in London.
13Received a Masters Degree in Psychology from UCLA in 1993.
14Born in Queens, she has three siblings; one older brother and a younger brother and sister. Her mother Marjorie Mary Goldbach née McKnight was Irish Catholic. Her father Howard Irwin Goldbach was Austrian Jewish and a New York City police officer. Her Grandmother was Rumanian.
15Barbara was sent to Rome as model for the noted "Seventeen" mag. There she fell in love with an Italian businessman, Augusto Gregorini, who was 11 years her senior. At the age of 18 she married Augusto and moved with him to Rome where she began her film career.
16Barbara's photo was featured on the cover of "Playboy" magazine in January 1981. Inside was a photo spread of Barbara, too. She made several other appearances in "Playboy" related to her movie work, especially as a "Bond Girl" in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977).
17Attended the famous Beatles concert at Shea Stadium in 1965 which is 15 years before she would meet her future husband, Beatles drummer Ringo Starr.
18A published interview with her in the late 1970s proclaimed her "Queen of the B-Movies".
19Mother, with Augusto Gregorini, of Francesca Gregorini and Gianni Gregorini.
