Since 1999, the late Bob Barker had experienced a wide range of health issues, including a blocked carotid artery, a stroke, and several dangerous falls.
Barker wrote his 2009 autobiography, Priceless Memories, with cowriter Digby Diehl. Barker has received 14 Daytime Emmy Awards for outstanding game show host.
Barker experienced two more health issues three years after filming The Price is Right’s 30th season finale.
On May 30, 2002, while sleeping in the sun, he had a stroke and was sent to the hospital.
Barker felt what he described as awkwardness in his right hand while he was getting ready for the presentation.
He was brought to the George Washington University Hospital, where it was discovered that his left carotid artery was partly stopped.
To remove the obstruction, Barker had a carotid endarterectomy. He was able to get back to work within a month because the treatment went well enough.
He underwent a prostate surgery in 2002 as well.
